I'm just gonna put it out there that I considered Shrabster one of the "better" ones. The backwards/Superfriends thing gave it a slightly more
fun tone than the other episodes from this time.

49 - Cavemen - I think this episode is Sealab trying their hardest to do a "return to form." It's kind of precious, really. But
really, they've lost it, and it's never coming back. This episode is all Stormy and Quinn doing "dialogue humor" while they're trapped in
a cave in real time. There is not a single funny joke to be had, and you'd have to really have a shitty sense of humor to actually laugh at any point in
this ep, but it is just adorable that they tried. I just can't stay mad at you, Sealab. (compn: I did not like this episode <----- compn: make sure you
read that)

Updated analogy on Cavemen: It's like watching Sarah Palin's retarded baby son do something, you already kind of hate it, and you know it's just
going to fuck up, and it really SHOULD have been aborted by this point, but still, bless its poor retard baby heart for trying.
50 - Moby Sick - Chuck D guest stars in this episode, I suppose because Flavor Flav had already paved the way for Public Enemy members to demean themselves and their race on terrible television shows. (oof, that joke was almost as bad as anything in this episode) He plays a whale with whale cancer. This episode features the most blatant plagiarism I have ever seen on national television, where they rip the shit off of the "That's My Dick" gag from the last That's My Bush by having the whale star in a sitcom called "Gotta Have That Dick" (like Moby Dick, get it) and a theme song where they say "dick" a bunch of times. That's not all, they also trot out some Hitler jokes by having Dolphin Boy be a skinhead. It IS edgy and no-holds-barred, though, I'll give them that. In the credits of this episode, they put a screenshot of that commercial where the ugly mongoloids at 7030 danced around and sang. Do you guys remember that commercial? And remember how fucking ugly they all were? It's on here. It makes me wonder, between the show they produce and putting their gargoyle faces on TV whenever they can, if they were on some kind of personal mission to get as much ugliness on TV as they could. You could not cast an uglier group. I mean, they looked like the montage of losers a romantic comedy female lead would date before meeting the male lead. Me-ow, what a catty fucking bitch I am, man there is no reason for me to let myself indulge in such grave personal flaws. This write up is over. Akira - "Most overrated film of all time. 51 - No Waterworld - Hey Sealab is almost over! This episode is about as good as Sealab is capable of being anymore. It's not actually good but it's not super annoying and bullshitty. What happens is, there is no water on Sealab, so everyone walks around and does stupid boring shit. They do this while they suck. This episode didn't do any stupid "offensive" dumbness or blatantly rip anything off or look down on the audience too hard so I'm just gonna consider it a win for season four. Hey since that episode was shockingly not painful I decided to go ahead and finish this crap off finally.
52 - Legacy of Laughter - Hey the encoder cut out the fake bump at the beginning! This episode was shockingly boring and bad and completely painful to sit through. This was the only season four episode I watched while season four was airing, and I remembered it being bad but on rewatching it it was a whole lot worse than I remembered. But, the best thing Sealab could do at this point was end, and this episode does just that, so that alone makes it less of a fuck up than any other Sealab since season like 2-ish. I have to admit the Murphy tribute is really nice, probably not as classy as they think it is but it did make my heart swell a bit. It also made my heart break a bit to see that the very worst Murphy episode is so many times better than anything of the last few years but then they'd play a clip of an actual good episode and I'd get actually happy again and I dare say I may have had a laugh. The way the episode ends with a fake bump is also probably not as classy as they think it is but I kind of like the idea of pretending it was a half hour episode and then ending halfway through. If someone actually fell for it it would probably work well but I doubt anyone ever has or ever will. I also kind of like the overall gimmick of doing a retrospective episode as the last episode even though it's not really well done here at all. SO, what have I learned from watching all the Sealabs I've never seen? I've learned that it got really bad, which I knew all along. So, I learned nothing. Continue burning in hell Sealab, I don't miss you at all and the world is better off without you. Akira - "Most overrated film of all time. So, now that I got THOSE shows over with, I think I'm gonna keep this thread going at no one's behest because this thread is literally the most
constructive thing I've done this summer. Here are shows I plan to watch next:
The Boondocks - I only watched the pilot of this show and really hated it and never watched it again but I have a feeling that I shortchanged it and there are probably some good episodes or things in it. Drawn Together - I also only watched the pilot of this show and then never again but I kind of feel like I just have to watch the whole show at least once in my life. I have to see for myself how bad it was. I actually read an interview where the creators themselves said that the show got really bad at a point, so if THEY think that, then watching the whole series will probably make me die. So be there to see my death live on the big screen, this summer 2004. Freak Show - I've actually seen every episode of this, and I remember it being good enough to watch every episode but not good enough to actually be a fan of or care when it was cancelled. I kinda don't remember anything about it, and I've been curious to revisit it again and see if it's better than I remember it being, or if not, at least get a better understanding of why it failed. Lucy Daughter of the Devil - This one I'm probably going to do next. Not hating Birdman anymore has made me rethink my core beliefs of what I hate and don't hate. I have to rewatch Lucy to see if I still hate it. I think I'll be heartbroken if I don't hate it anymore. I'm actually pretty much ok with not hating Birdman though. But I still fear that I might be an idiot now and no one wants to tell me. If I don't hate Lucy anymore, then that is the ultimate proof that I am an idiot now and I will voluntarily delete every post I've ever made and ban myself. I love the Lucy thread too much to try to follow it so for this I wouldn't do episode by episode recaps, I would just watch the whole show and do one post about it. I actually rewatched all of Fat Guy Stuck in Internet over the last couple days so I think I'll do one post about it:
Fat Guy Stuck in Internet - Man the first episode of this show is really bad. I think I never noticed before because I'd already seen all of the Gemberling web shorts so I pretty much knew what was going to happen and what the show was going to be. But as a standalone thing, the pilot is really bad. I can definitely see why 99.999% of everyone wrote it off so fast. I almost can't understand why AS picked it up based on that pilot. BUT, I think it picks up right away. The second episode is not great, but a whole lot better. The next couple episodes are about on the same level, but I think in the second half of the series it becomes really good, and the ninth episode is pretty much great even! The tenth (and last) episode though, well that one kinda bites. But, this show has a scrappy charm to it that I enjoy watching even when it isn't great. I just think they're funny guys and they're pretty good at writing jokes and they seem to have a lot of fun making it. I think they knew there was no way they were getting a second season so they had to make the last episode be "epic" which makes it less funny but even it has a few decent jokes in it. Overall, I think this was a decent show that got a bad rap that needed a better first and last episode. A NOTE: I downloaded all the episodes from myspleen. When episode two premiered on April Fools Day, it was a different edit than when the actual show started airing. Myspleen only has the April Fools edit. But I like that edit better! I saw the Drawn Together pilot on Hulu and Kon is right about it 100%. It had to be the worst pilot for any show I ever seen, every joke is a horrid attempt to
be overly gross and edgy and shit. It's sad because the episodes the creators write for other shows are usually pretty good. So, watch on Hulu if you dare,
Kon.
Also I misread London's post on the Sealab song. |

thanks dude, I think I will.
Boondocks 101 - This was the only Boondocks I ever watched all the way through. I remember I REALLY hated it at the time. I didn't hate it as much this time, but it is really bad. The opening of the episode is so bad, when one of the boondocks comes out and says "shocking" things. It's such a lame attempt at being offensive, somebody at some point in the process of making the cartoon should have said "wait, that's terrible" and took it out. All through the rest of the episode there is a lot of bad writing going on. I guess I found the badness pretty forgivable by pilot standards so I didn't hate it so much this time. Also, the anime look doesn't really bother me at all anymore. Boondocks 102 - This episode is actually even worse. It's a spoof on the situation of R. Kelly. It's a pretty obvious attempt at doing South Park-esque topical humor, only every two minutes a character will look at the screen and just say something that a good satire would be showing rather than telling. Boondocks 103 - This one wasn't as bad. Grandpa dates a ho and people go nuts or die or something. I don't remember. Sorry this sucked! |

Boondocks 104-107 - This show isn't terrible, just boring. I actually find it more boring to look at than actual anime because people
don't go ^_^ and fall over sideways and there are no robots; by looking like anime but also being "realistic" it is the worst of both worlds.
This show would probably be great if it was good but it just isn't man. The attempts at satire are 8th grade sketch show caliber. Also, I really wish an
Adult Swim show would make a Christmas special that wasn't about murdering/beating up Santa or something shitty and edgy like that.
